President’s Column:

MARC still has a lot of coordination activity, especially on 440. Five requests came in, in a short period, and they were within at least 100 miles of another applicant. I have to process these one at a time in most cases. In many areas of the state there are few if any available repeater pairs, especially in the 100 miles around Detroit and Chicago. Also, there is difficulty dealing on the west side of the state because of excellent propagation across lake Michigan.

Slowly but surely the backlog will get cleaned up. I have five in process or waiting on 440 and one in process on 2 meters. I also have one on the 440 waiting list.

The meeting in September is near Lansing and open to all to attend. Directions are included in this newsletter. There will be elections for President, Secretary and one Board member. Any paid up MARC member can vote at the meeting. There will be absentee ballots available else ware in this newsletter.

Annual Business Meeting Information:

Meeting Location: Saturday Sept 8 2018 1:00 pm EDT Delta Township Fire Station 811 N. Canal Rd. Lansing, MI

Directions: Take I-96 to M-43 exit 93, go East to the first traffic light at Canal Rd. Turn left (North) on Canal Rd, go 150' to Administration Dr turn left (West), the new fire station will be on your right. Take the first driveway on the right to the West parking lot. Enter the building at the South entrance on Administration Dr.

Annual Business Meeting

This month brings the annual business meeting where we hold a physical meeting in the Lansing area. This includes the elections for board positions that will expire. This year, the Vice President, Treasurer and one Director position will be up for election.

If you are interested in running for any of these positions, please contact any one of the board members in person or by sending email to them using their [callsign]@miarc.com.

The absentee ballot is available for you to print and mail in. We are unable to accept votes via email at this time. Your ballot must appear in the MARC postal mailbox no later then Friday September 7th to be included. Please also note that in order to vote, you must be a paid member.

Membership dues may be mailed to the postal address listed on the main page of the website, or by clicking on the link to "Pay Your Dues" on the same web page.

Required corrections to certain dates printed in the March 3, 2018 newsletter were noted by the secretary as the minutes were read. Motion to approve minutes as corrected was made by Dave, seconded by Dan. Vote taken, minutes approved.

Old Business:

Dan did not have the chance to talk to Bob from Rfinder while at Dayton.

New Business:

Dave reported on a new laptop he is investigating for MARC use as a replacement. Discussion on various models.

Motion made by Dan:
That the MARC Board approve up to 800 dollars for the purchase of an updated new laptop for MARC. This will include the cost of anti-virus protection for 2 years. The current one will be provided to Phil to use for his MARC activities.
Second by Jim. Vote taken. Motion approved.

Phil brought up a thought that the board members and coordinators be provided with free MARC membership. This is something to think about and it can be discussed at the next meeting.
