President’s Column:

I’m glad to report that MARC is still on top of all applications for coordination. I am working on four requested coordinations at the present time. Here are some tips for trustees of Michigan repeater systems.

Submit a TDS update/renewal on line once a year for each coordination that you are responsible for as the trustee. Every other year is acceptable

Do not move the repeater more than 5 miles from the original coordination location. Do not double the power, or raise the antenna 50 percent or more from the original coordination. You must first submit a TDS update to have the repeater re-coordinated. Implementing any of these three changes prior to the completion of the re-coordination process may be used as grounds for revocation of the repeater’s coordination. Some surrounding states use coverage area instead of simple mileage requirements, so a low profile repeater may be rejected if increases in coverage are proposed.

Trustees, you are the main connection between MARC and your repeater’s coordination. The responsibility is yours to take care of the coordination. You also have a duty to inform MARC if you are no longer the trustee, or if the repeater is shut down with no intention of resuming operations. Here is part of a section of the marc procedures:

The sponsor shall report any change in the operating parameters of a coordinated repeater system—such as location, antenna height, transmitted power, sponsor, trustee, or mailing address—to MARC as soon as possible. Notification of temporary changes is not required if the change is for a period of less than ten (10) days.

Participation in the webmeeting is only needed for things like slideshow presentations, or use of a whiteboard where someone may need to do an illistration. It also allows us the opportunity to display the actual text of a motion for everyone to read. If you are unable to participate in the webmeeting you may still join in on the phone bridge from wherever you are.

The abilities for MARC to use the Phone Bridge and Webmeeting facilities has been brought to us by Jim K8JK and his employer.

We hope that moving to this format will increase participation by the membership of MARC so that we are better able to serve the amateur community.

Old Business

W8DC repeater trustee was informed by Phil of the suggestion by the board to stay at 20 watts of power on their application. If more power would be required to reach the necessary coverage, a request for an increase could be made at that time. Phil has been working on a waiver form. In lieu of a standard form, a set of basic requirements will be assembled, since each waiver has different requirements based on the particular situation.

New Business:

Fred inquired about adding the color code for Mototrbo repeaters to the database and directory. Discussion followed. Dan and Dave will explore where the data could be placed into the record.
