A short note from the Prez………..

Greetings one and all.  First of all, I would like to bring up a very important topic – Dues. Yes, they are past due if you have not paid them by now.  Please get them in, as soon as possible, if you have not done so already.  Please send them to:

Kelly F. Karpp, KB8RWG
MARC Treasurer
PO Box 127
Oscoda, MI  48750

Concerning the TDS’s. Please make sure that ALL of the fields are filled in and correct. It takes a lot of Volunteered hours to go through each TDS that comes in.

The March 3rd meeting will be held in Saginaw. Location and directions else where in this newsletter. As usual, the meeting will start promptly at 1:00PM

At this time, I would like to thank Joel Goldberg for the time that he has put into the MARC Board. Good luck in the future to you and Alice.

The June meeting will be held in conjunction with the IRA Hamfest, in Hudsonville, MI on the 1st. Come on out to the Hamfest, and then join us in the meeting.

If anyone has any questions, you can reach the Board via of the website, or my phone number is 586-465-7126. For those of making the meeting on the March 3rd, I’ll see you there.

73,

Dennis, W8DFG

President

PS. There was a vote at the last meeting about a change in the bylaws. There was a motion made to decrease the dues. Please see the December minutes for further info.

Database Manager / Webmaster’s Corner

The past quarter has seen a busy to say the least.  I produced three updates of the web site Repeater Directory in addition to updates to the Meetings and Newsletter pages.  I submitted MARC data to the ARRL for the 2002 ARRL repeater directory.  The submit process took more time this year because the ARRL changed to a new data file format, so I had to write and test a new extract program.

The latest Repeater Directory shows that of the 396 repeaters listed, 38.6% have a Renewal Update TDS due. I have processed 113 renewal TDS’s since mid November.  Our renewal backlog was eliminated by the end of 2001.  I as of February 11, 2002 I have 0 renewal TDS’s in the processing queue.

I created a website update log for 2002.  You can get to the page by clicking on the Last Update 02/20/2002 link in the upper left corner of the MARC home page.  This link always reflects the latest website change.

I’ve started work on revising the TDS form to make more fields mandatory, like frequency, call sign, latitude and longitude seconds, etc., etc.  Incomplete forms add more time to processing.  We are trying to limit the number of TDS’s that have to be resubmitted because of incomplete data.  There also may be additional fields to track more closely with ARRL Repeater Directory notes data.  The MARC board will review and approve the revised TDS form.  MARC members will be notified when the new form will be implemented.

For those members that will be submitting TDS forms:  Please fill out your forms completely.  Incomplete or illegible forms will be returned.  Please provide your repeater’s street address or the nearest crossroads.  If you are recording changes, mention them in the comments area of the online form or attach a note to the paper TDS.  As always, accurate and legible TDS forms make processing updates less time consuming.

I’ve logged 147 hours on MARC activities since mid November 2001.

MARC Inc. Minutes of the December 2,2001 Meeting

The December meeting of MARC INC. was held at the Pontiac E.O.C. and was called to order by President Dennis Gaboury W8DFG at 1:01pm. The Board members present were President Gaboury, Past Treasurer Goldberg W8HIU, Treasurer Kelly Karpp KB8RWG, Data Base Manager Dave Johnson WD8DJB, Frequency Coordinator Wallace Murray KE8HR, Director Bill Kelley KC8DGB, and Secretary Ron Huber N8JAZ.

A motion to accept the minutes as printed was made by Kelly Karpp, and supported by Bill Kelley. The Motion carried. The Audit Committee recommended that the Treasurer keep the groups’ financial records in a program such as Quicken. Kelly Karpp read the Treasurer’s Report and it showed $4,695.42 on the Group’s account.

Copies of the Bylaws were handed out to the board. The first reading will be at the March meeting in Saginaw.

Wallace Murray, the Coordinator reported that one 10 meter, two 6 meter, five 2 meter, one 220 meter, and twelve 440 meter systems were awaiting checking out. The most often missed item is the coordinates to the nearest SECOND. The next most frequently missed item on the TDS was miscalculation of ERP of antenna gain. These errors require large amounts of time spent on investigation before the TDS can be approved.

Dave Johnson, Database Coordinator processed 51 renewals, 28 new co ordinations and received 18 more today. Each form requires one hour per coordination.

Kelly Karpp made a motion to establish a bank account at Northland Area Federal Credit Union. Joel Goldberg W8HIU supported the motion. The motion carried.  Kelly Karpp made a motion to reduce the Membership dues from $15 to $10 and associates from $7.50 to $5. This motion was recommended because of the surplus in our bank account from using electronic filing and emailing the newsletters.  Wallace Murray supported it and the motion carried.  Dave Johnson suggested we support the QSL NET with a $20 donation annually. Ron Gordon W8YUC made the motion and was supported by Kelly Karpp. The motion carried.

Joel Goldberg W8HIU remarked that he enjoyed his tenure on the MARC Board. He also commented on the fine job being done on the newsletter. He recommended that when paying annual dues include which year being paid for, call sign, and print legibly.

A phone or access code was discussed for quadrant class repeaters.

The next meeting will be held March 3, 2002 in Saginaw at 1 pm.

Kelly Karpp made a motion to adjourn which Wallace Murray seconded. The motion passed. The meeting adjourned at 1:45pm

Respectfully Submitted

Ron Huber

FREQUENCY INFORMATION:

1. For a New Coordination, indicate the desired band only.

All other actions require entering coordinated frequency data.

SYSTEM STATUS: “Will be On By” enter date only if the system has been off‑line for some reason. “Proposed” is only for new coordinations. If system is coordinated and on the air use “ Operational”.

(Required) Entries with double zeros in the second’s position are not acceptable. The AMSL and COORDINATES are derived from a USGS 7 2 minute quadrangle map or GPS device.

Exact Location: this is the address where the repeater is located.

ANTENNA & POWER INFORMATION: Please note the Power to Antenna does not refer to transmit power out of the transmitter, but to the actual power that reaches the feed point of the antenna, there are significant power losses in duplexers
